This update completely changed how I use new.space

If you’ve been in a shared Space with another person, you might have been in a situation where an item had been added, yet nobody else knew that there was something new or who added it. This is not very punk rock and having to send a message to the person to let them know you added something is something that we knew needed to change. Luckily, there is a nifty feature built into operating systems that allows for push notifications! So in today’s post I want to show you how you can enable push notifications, tell you how we plan to develop it further, and find out how you can help us turn this into something great. Let’s get into it.

How to get push notifications

To enable this feature, you have to first make sure you are updated to the latest TestFlight build, you can do that by opening the TestFlight app and ensuring that new.space is up-to-date. Next, you will want to open the app and head to settings (by tapping on your name in the upper-left hand corner) where you will find a section that says Notifications Disabled. If you tap that button you will be navigated to the Settings app where you can choose to Allow Notifications and select how you want receive them. 

All you have to do to get rolling with notifications!

What a notification looks like

After enabling the setting, if you are in a shared Space and someone adds an item, you will get a notification that lets you know that it was added. Neat!

We know, of course, that there is a lot of room for growth here. There are all sorts of events that would be useful to be notified about. Moments like being added to a Space, or when someone adds a note to an item are all things that would be interesting to know in the instant they happen.
