Hey everyone! We've got a whole host of bug fixes, improvements and new features in new.space that we've added in the last month. Here is a quick look at some of the highlights:
Improved: We changed the way thumbnails for text and code files. The result should be a faster and more consistent rendering of the preview of the file in the grid view.
New: Added emoji search in reactions. 😀🙂😊
New: Pasting text that includes URLs will now create Link cards for those URLs. Let us know if this is a behavior that clicks with you, or if it should be a setting. Personally, I love it!
New: Added Moodboard layout which makes cards visually fill out the whole card, hiding the buttons and title. You can toggle this in the menu.
Fixed: Fixed bug where hitting backspace in the emoji search, would delete the item 🙃. Not only is the bug fixed, but we also added confirm dialog to avoid future accidental deletions.
Improved: Hovering emoji now shows the name of the emoji.
Improved: Changed behavior for link cards. Clicking anywhere on the link card will open the URL in a new tab, and the action button will open the detail view. We felt like this was a more natural way of interacting with link cards, let us know if you agree or disagree!
Improved: Downloads on slower connection speeds should now be more reliable. Anthony was travelling which allowed us to confirm that the fix was working. Let us know if you encounter any issues, we want new.space to be as reliable as possible.
Improved: Julius, the visual designer on the team, opened his first pull request on the webapp to improve typography and spacing. 👏
Upcoming: We've been working a lot this month on the new detail view layout for items. This has been a massive effort that not only brings a bunch of new info and functionality to the detail view, but also provides a much better experience for interacting with a variety of types of cards. It looks amazing, and keen observers will also pick out details (heh) like the fullscreen button and reactions. We are putting the finishing touches to the layout right now, and it should be available for everyone quite soon.
This isn't an exhaustive list, but just some important bits. Stay tuned for the new detail view as well as some great features that will extend the possibilities of how you can use new.space. We are so excited. If you've been using new.space, and have some ideas about things you want to see in a list like this in the future, let us know in the comments here! Also, if you haven't yet tried new.space and need an access code, write us here as well and we'll get you set up and running.
Till next time, happy sharing 👋
