What's new for new.space this summer

A quick look stuff we've done and stuff to come

In German there is this thing called "Sommerloch", which literally translates to "Summer hole" and refers to this time in the summer months when nothing is going on because everyone is on vacation. Well, despite being in the middle of the Sommerloch, the team over here at Shareup keep hitting home runs week after week, and I want to take some time to share some of that great work that maybe doesn’t get mentioned in the big splash posts. It’s changelog time, and we haven’t done in this a bit, so let's get into it!

Let's start on new.space for iOS. Obligatory notice: if you haven't tried the beta yet, you absolutely should try it and let us know what you think. You can get it here. We take all the feedback we have super seriously, and want our product to be shaped to suit the problems you face!

New

• Reactions now include info about who did what in the details view 👍

• Push notifications when someone adds an Item to a Space 💌

• Push notifications when an item changes 🆕

• Dated view layout to a Space 🗓️

• Added new Space share UI, where you can share directly to people 🥂

Fixed

• The 'What's New' dialog was  stuck in Groundhog day mode and was showing the incorrect dates 🕰️

• Fixed some crashes that happen when uploading or downloading in the background 💥

• Fixed full screen image presentation with some images 🖼️

• Fixed issues with upload/download state 📤📥

• Fixed bug with uneditable account name 🪨

• Fixed incorrect thumbnail in space preview 🌌

Improved

• We tuned settings to have a separate Account section 🪪

• We improved the app's responsiveness when starting downloads & uploads 💨

• Pinned spaces should scroll more smoothly now 📍

• Note syncing should be faster 🗒️

• Increased add sheet tap area ☝️

That was a lot. You would never know that just 3 people work on the iOS app with the quality they keep cranking out these updates. Let’s look at the web:

• Only show “Link expires” in rendered og:images if the timeline link expires 🤯

• .mov videos should now render correctly more often 📼

• Upload files over a WebSocket connection (fixes a memory leak in Chrome, may make uploads faster in some cases) 🚿

• We improved how items load in the grid, it should feel snappier 🏃‍♂️

What’s coming up

As always, this isn’t the entire list, but rather just some of the things worth mentioning. We’ve been super focused lately on getting the apps to a solid place before launching the 1.0 version of new.space, and that means fixing any and all bugs that we find. Beyond the release, we have some projects lined up which we are exciting to share with you all, mainly focused around expanding the types of things you can do with Spaces. We’ve been super inspired to see you all use new.space, and we can’t wait to build even more great things for you all.
