One hundred times better?! Ok, maybe I stretched, 10x better? Hard to say. Regardless, this little stratagem has really helped me go into the weekend with a clear head. Let me show you. But first, in case you've missed it, try out the iOS beta. We'd love to get your feedback on it:
Easing into the weekend.
The idea here is to get a head start on the next week before the weekend even kicks off, easier said than done. If you are a procrastinator like me, then this sounds like an awful idea. However, this 5min task unlocks my brain for the weekend ahead. Here are the 3 steps to find that calm:
Get the Space in place
Before I close the laptop and hang up the ring light for the week, I like to create a new Space. This Space is gonna stick with me for the week, so I usually give it the same title "This week" (look, just name it whatever you want, give it a date or whatever works for you), and I pin this Space to my tabs so I don't lose it.
Close the tabs
Or, more accurately, move the tabs to your week Space. There is no worse feeling than opening your browser on the weekend and seeing tabs that relate to work or stuff that you are going to have to deal with later. Plus, as an added bonus, you get out of tab hell.
In my opinion, this is just a better way of dealing with links as well. The tabs become overloaded and tiny, you can't even tell what they are anymore. With the card preview, it is much easier to get an overview of what things are, so it feels a little less overwhelming.
Do the Sunday night worry on Friday afternoon
Ever just lay awake on Sunday night thinking of all the things you gotta do in the coming week? My Sunday nights have become a whole lot more zen since I did a lot of that next week inventory before starting the weekend. For me, this usually involves grouping some concepts for videos and content in my inspiration Space, then adding that Space to my week Space. That is pretty specific to me, add whatever you think you'll need to start your Monday fresh before you finish up your week.
This doesn't have to be work items, it can also be things related to chores around the house or ongoing projects. My week Space for the coming week has a YouTube video to learning the rules of a boardgame we'll play next week with some friends, and some German learning resources. This strategy isn't about hiding stress, it is about taming the chaos.
This tip isn't for everyone, and I imagine most of you are so organized that I look like a human junk drawer over here just barely scraping by. Nevertheless, it works for me. If you have some tricks or tactics on how to tame the chaos, we'd love to hear about it. Perhaps there is something we can build into new.space to make it that much better for you.
As always, thanks for reading. I hope you calmly and relaxedly ease into your weekend. Happy sharing.
