With the new.space for iOS beta in the wild, and everyone creating spaces, keeping them organized with an account, and having a grand ol' time sharing…it begs the question: What's next for new.space on the web?
That's a great question. While there are a lot of things we plan to build and launch this year, some are still cooking on the design stove, while others are cooling off? …steeping? I'm not sure where to go with this cooking metaphor, but, let's just say, they aren't ready quite yet. What I'm trying to say is that the list here is not the list, it is rather a collection of some stuff that is close to being ready to go, and we wanna share it. Let's. get. into. it:
Accounts for new.space on the web
This has been a huge request and something we've been working on in parallel while getting the iOS beta ready. Using new.space without an account will continue to work in much the same way it does today, we firmly believe in frictionless sharing as a core part of our vision. Having an account gives you the ability see all your spaces, organize them, and privately share them with anyone. As we get closer to date, we'll share some more details about how it works and what superpowers this unlocks.
Today Space
A bit ago, we published a video about the Today Space. Keen-eyed beta-testers might have noticed its absence from the new.space for iOS beta, and for that matter it not being on new.space for web. We wanted to apply a bit more polish to this feature before we shipped it, and we didn't want it to be a blocker for the beta. So, we decided to push it back a bit. In case you missed the previous video, the Today Space kinda works like an inbox. It is a Space that you get every day that is a great dropzone when you just want to save something without having to worry about where to put it. We love it and can't wait to share it with you very soon.
Space upgrades
A lot of folks have requested more storage for Spaces, permissions & locking capabilities, and the ability to add additional info to a a Space with Notes. This is all on our radar and coming in one way or another. We'll be in touch on the details here a bit later as they become clearer. Test out a locked space here, for example:
As I said in the first paragraph, this isn't the list. There are lots of other things in the pipeline too. Here is the question though: What would you like to see for new.space? Hit reply and let me know 💪
We have been thrilled to have the apps out there for everyone to use, and we are super excited to release them fully into the wild.
As always, thanks for reading and happy sharing!
